A little about me.

My name is Terence, I am a freelance Web Developer in Guildford. I have my own company called Techef.

My background is in Accounting, Computer Science & Mathematics. Having worked in many versatile roles, combining both accounting and development, I have now set myself on route to focus on development roles only.

My strongest personal skill is my logical approach to life, which enables me to solve problems with a high attention to detail. Weather that be looking at your accounts, meticulously checking transactional items & number crunching, writing and sifting through code such as PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript & JSON. My approach is in-depth, and produces great results.

My favourite frameworks and things I like to play with;

Wordpress, jQuery, jQuery UI, Foundation, Node.js, Zend, Zepto, and Titanium (Mobile Applications).

Senior Accounts Assistant / Web Developer- April 2012 - May 2013
Intelligent Partnership

This role is split 50/50 between accounting and web development. I started straight after my previous role. A much more flexible role based in Richmond, where I am the sole Accountant covering all of the accounting tasks. The company operates in the Financial Services sector, working primariliy in the Pensions Market, providing marketing for Commodity Products poised for investments via Pension Funds.

I am in charge of developing websites used for marketing purposes for products and projects (products such as Farmland and Green Energy). The websites are being used to gain interest from consumer investors. In all cases I aim to use the latest web technologies and implement a wide variety of options, while sticking to a project plan and timeframe.

The Learning Curve

It is important to reflect on the key things you have learned from any situaiton in life, especially employment. Covering the entire accounting process on my own, I have learned and improved myself in versatility, organisation & time management. I have also found that it is good to come out of your shell and share your ideas on progressing the business, it makes the business more fruitful and an open atmosphere.

Richmond is beautiful.

Accounts Assistant / Junior Developer- Jan 2009 - April 2012
State Oil

This role very much started as a junior role. When i started i took over most part of the data entry and processing in the accounts team. My time at State Oil progressed and I took on more responsiblities that were key to the function of company.

  • Daily Cash Flow forecasting and liaising with our invoice financing company
  • Daily Bank reconciliations.
  • Monthly stock reconciliation, calculating oil loss due to density and seasonal evaporation.
  • Calculating monthly profits per cost centre and setting budgets for each department, whilst liaising with department managers regarding their budget.
  • Daily processing of data and transactions in the accounting System.
  • Processing Direct Debits and Payroll.
  • Control on a £40 to £50m Sales Ledger.

    • As time progressed the company were in need of some developments particularly an internal intranet system and an in-house system to deal with stock. The senior developer needed an extra pair of hand and this is where i got involved. For the last year and a half I was helping develop and build the in house intranet system, programmed in PHP on an Internal server running Apache, this project took 5-6 months. After this was completed I was assisting the build of the internal stock system which was build on ASP .net framework, which as a project took just under 12 months.

      The Learning Curve

I look back on this role and remember how young I was when I started. But despite the lack of experience and the nervousness of youth; I was driven to succeed, proove myself and make a difference. I grew up in this company and matured into a man, with that, my attitudes to work evolved inline with the ethics of the company.

I am glad that I still have the same drive and passion as when I started my career all those years ago is still alive, and even better with a mature approach. For that I must thank this employer.

      Your roots are your foundation.

Accountant / Business Development - May 2008 - Aug 2008
RS Productions

This was a part time project I did along Side College, working with a producer who setting up his own business. We were looking into gaining some investment from third parties & Investors.

I would help produce accounts, totalling his sales income from recording sessions from Artists, and eventually netting a profit figure for him. I would then send these the accounts of to possible Vendors to gain some investment, and aiming in the long-term to make the business successful enough to become incorporated as LTD Company.

The Learning Curve

This role started with an idea and a dream, with a passion for music and as a keen musician. It is important to do what you love and love what you do. But this really set the path for me to be a person who contributes not just the numbers, but qualified ideas that may corss my mind. We are here to improve the world, that spark in your brain may be all that is needed to set the path alight.

Innovation is the seed of the future.

The hearts of people

What motivates you in life will manifest into your behaviour and interaction with others. The biggest manifestation in the workplace seems to discontent. And this misconceived idea that work is only about making money, only fuels it.

The key is people, and their hearts. Everyone you work with is a soul; they have a mind, heart and body. Your job, and all that you do in life, is an opportunity to connect and create friendships & trust, and believe it or not, love. This will only be joyous for you. Ask yourself, what is your primary motivation in life?
